Inspirational Impact Across Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon

The BIG Spring Clean 2023

Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Councils investment for 2023/24 provided funding for 8 projects through the Live Here Love Here Small Grants Scheme including:

Dromore Central Primary School created a sensory garden using diverse types of plants with various textures and colours developing an under-used part of an Eco Garden. The pupils loved planting seeds and bulbs and exploring a stimulating area, especially suitable for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Aghagallon Community Centre volunteers utilised the funding to increase volunteer engagement and extend the size and number of planted beds in the village. Engagement with the local Primary School with planting and maintenance of flower beds has increased pride in the community to "Love Where We Live!"

Glenanne Development Association are passionate in bringing back to life the long neglected inaccessible woodland and have worked tirelessly to develop trails and protect the woodlands' diverse habitat. Over 1,000 trees have been planted, waterways cleared, and many invasive species have been eradicated. Planting of both the walled garden and the pollinator garden with wildlife attractive shrubbery, perennials and bedding plants has created an enormous benefit to the existing wildlife and insect life of the woodland.

Well Kept Waringstown residents of all age ranges volunteered to improve the local area for the benefit and well-being of everyone. Volunteers connect and enjoy being out in the fresh air, meeting new friends and having a feel-good factor about what they do as they contribute to their local environment. Well Kept Waringstown were also finalists in the LHLH Community Awards in the category of LHLH Champions Award.
City of Armagh High School utilised funding for a transformation of underused areas.  Vibrant and valued community places developed into gardens specifically designed to attract diverse habitats and grow food, building students resilience and self-belief while fostering sustainable communities through volunteer-led action.

St Paul's GFC were able to use funding to develop a nature trial beside football pitches with the creation of a sensory trial using a range of plants. A pond, bird feeder, animal boxes, and bench were added and it is open for the whole community to enjoy.

Anaghmore Regeneration Group is an intergenerational project focusing on bringing the community together and meeting outside in nature. The project encourages and supports the development of a community garden growing from seed and developed young plants, in a garden space of flower beds and seasonal and native plants that encourage pollinators. The project enables members of the community who have a love for gardening to work together in a team of people who may otherwise be socially isolated.

St Marys Primary School project reconnects the community and school using an outdoor space to foster a love for nature, inspiring volunteers to continue to care for our world. The Live Here Love Here funding has given pupils and the local community a new space and the opportunity to experience regular outdoor learning activities. The space encourages learning of the natural world with fabulous days with family, friends and community building and learning from each other. The new school garden has made a dramatic difference in connecting people and developing links and will continue to do so.
