BIG Spring Clean

The BIG Spring Clean is back for Spring 2026!

The BIG Spring Clean is our annual call for communities across Northern Ireland to give their local areas a fresh, clean start for the year ahead. Running each February and March, it brings together individuals, families, schools, businesses, and community groups to take part in organised litter picks that brighten neighbourhoods and strengthen community pride.

But the BIG Spring Clean is about more than just a tidy-up — it’s essential environmental action. Every bag collected helps protect wildlife, prevent plastics and other pollutants from entering our rivers and coastlines, and makes your community cleaner, safer, and more welcoming.

Get Ready

Spring is the perfect time to get outside, roll up your sleeves, and make a real difference in your community! Planning your litter pick carefully ensures it’s safe, enjoyable, and effective.

Plan Your Pick:

  • Choose a safe location and check for any hazards.
  • Get permission, if required.
  • Coordinate with your local council to access the right equipment — gloves, litter pickers, high-vis clothing, and sturdy footwear — and arrange waste collection.

Stay Safe:

  • Complete a risk assessment and brief volunteers on potential hazards.
  • Avoid handling dangerous items such as syringes, chemical containers, or unknown objects.
  • Work in teams, stay visible, and remember to wash your hands afterward.
After Your Pick:
  • Tie up bags securely, separate recyclables where possible, and dispose of bags responsibly.
  • Celebrate your efforts — post your photos on social media using #LiveHereLoveHere.
  • Record your impact — Share your results by completing the Activity Log.
